Meet Dr Savannah Spillett
BVetBiol, DVM, MANZCVS (Avian Medicine and Surgery)
Dr Savannah was always determined to be a veterinarian, and she attributes her passion for avian medicine largely to her first pet at age 7, which was Buddy the Cockatiel, who accompanied her into adulthood and most of the way through veterinary school.
Dr Savannah worked as a veterinary nurse at a large avian and exotics clinic during vet school and was ecstatic to stay on as a veterinarian after graduating from the University of Sydney in 2020. Originally from rural NSW, Savannah never planned to stay in the big city. Still, her desire to continue working with weird, wonderful, feathered, furry, and scaly species (plus the lure of amazing vegan food) was too strong!
Although passionate about caring for all creatures, great and small, Dr Savannah especially adores members of the Cockatoo family and pigeons/doves. Her passion for birds is demonstrated in her recent membership with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Avian Medicine and Surgery. Dr Savannah’s favourite thing is witnessing the bond between patients and their families.
Hobbies and Interest
When Savannah is not working, you may find her tending to her indoor plant collection, accumulating cute homewares, attempting to grow vegetables, and picking flowers for her birds to most likely destroy.
Owned Pets
Savannah currently shares her home with four cockatiels, including three teenage gentlemen, Frodo, Oliver, and Tashi, and a little lady named Lola Lola. She also has a very handsome but chaotic spotted dove named Squidward.
