Meet Dr Shelby Chew (She/Her)
BVetBiol, DVM
Dr Shelby graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. She then spent time at various exotics, zoo, and wildlife clinics, including one in South Africa. From there, she spent two years as a small animal and shelter veterinarian in Sydney and, in 2021, joined the Bird & Exotics team.
Shelby loves all creatures great and small but has a soft spot for birds and rabbits. She is especially passionate about animal welfare.
Dr Shelby was a recipient of the Stephen Ross Memorial Scholarship in 2023, where she presented her paper “A Case of Pulmonary and Airsac Proteinosis in a Green-Cheeked Conure (Pyrrhura molinae)” at the Unusual Pet and Avian Veterinarians conference.
Dr Shelby is on the Australian Veterinary Association Unusual Pets and Avian Veterinarians (UPAV) committee.
Hobbies and Interest
Shelby enjoys travelling, reading, hiking, and doing tae kwon outside of work.
Owned Pets
Shelby shares her home with cheeky Indian Ringnecks called Chico and Bebe, Sizzle, the Dachshund, and Mavis the rescue Corgi.
