Meet Vet Nurse, Kristina (She/Her)
Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
As a child, Kristina had a strong interest in birds. She would help her Late Nonno (Grandfather) with his aviary of canaries and then later owned her first birds at the age of 8. She always found birds fascinating and wanted to learn more about them and help them in any way she could.
As a teenager, Kristina’s Quaker companion Percy became unwell and ended up in an Emergency Veterinary Hospital. There, she had the privilege of meeting Dr Stacey Gelis, who inspired her to become a Veterinary Nurse for Exotic Animals.
When Kristina finished high school, she earned a Certificate II in Animal Studies and then obtained her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. During her studies, she also did a work placement at a local Vet Clinic, where she learned about dogs and cats. However, deep down, she wanted to pursue a career with exotics, as that’s where her heart was set.
In early 2019, Kristina secured a nursing position with Dr Alex Rosenwax at The Bird and Exotics Veterinary Clinic due to her interest in Birds. It was here that Kristina learned more about birds and all the other exotic animals that came through. She saw the strong compassion everyone had and felt at home. She was also able to learn more about all the other exotic animals and, to this day, always wants to learn more.
Kristina is known as the Quaker whisperer and will give them head scratches and cuddles whenever she can.
Hobbies and Interest
Outside work, Kristina likes to watch anime series, sometimes draw and play video games with friends. She enjoys pop/rock and metal music, and she absolutely adores Adam Lambert, but you will also find her head banging to bands such as Electric Callboy in her spare time. Just recently, Kristina started learning to play the drums.
Owned Pets
Currently, Kristina shares her home with two Quaker parrots, Percy and Polo; a lovebird, Cyrus; two budgies, Russette and Ollie; and a cockatiel named Harry.
