Frequently Asked Questions

How do I refer a case to one of your clinics?

We regularly see referrals from other vets. The client can book in by giving us a call or booking online through our website. We then just need the patient history, as well as any other relevant information emailed to the relevant clinic or submitted via our online referral form.

Once you select one of the above options, you will be directed to a page where you can pay for the selected service using a credit card as well as enter the case information and question/s you have.

As a special introduction to our new service, we’re offering free Single Question Advice for all veterinary clinics submitting a question for the first time until the end of 2025. To claim this offer, simply select the ‘Single Question Advice’ option and enter the code ‘FREEUPVHELP’ at checkout.

We will also be contacting clinics that refer cases to us regularly to provide you with a discount code so you can continue to get free exotics advice.

Aside from the above, and due to the huge number of enquiries we receive each day, we have had to make the decision to no longer offer free exotics veterinary advice to other clinics beyond that. We are happy to assist you through one of the above options, or are also happy to see the case as a referral.

Dose Rates:

If you are after specific doses, another option is to purchase the Exotic Animal Formulary (First Author: James Carpenter) so you have access for future cases. There are a number of websites that sell this book as an e-book so you could gain immediate access.

General Advice:

If you are after general advice, and would like to have a text that you can refer back to in the future, then we recommend the following ebooks:

  • Avian Medicine and Surgery in Practice (First Author: Bob Doneley)
  • Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents (First Author: Katherine Quensenberry)
  • BSAVA Manual of Rabbit Surgery, Dentistry and Imaging (First Author: Frances Harcourt-Brown)
  • Reptile Medicine and Surgery in Clinical Practice (First Author: Bob Doneley)
  • BSAVA Manual of Rabbit Medicine (First Author: Anna Meredith)

Wildlife:

If you are after advice for a wildlife case, we recommend you contact one of the wildlife veterinary hospitals, a list of these for each state is as follows:

  • WA – WA Wildlife
  • SA – Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Centre
  • VIC – Healesville Sanctuary
  • NSW and ACT – University of Sydney Wildlife Hospital
  • QLD – Australia Zoo
  • NT and TAS – please reach out to one of the above organisations

One of our experienced exotics veterinarians will be assisting you, our current UPV Vet Help team includes the below veterinarians with support as needed from our wider veterinary team:
